Growing Up Wild: Exploring Nature - Watershed ( 9:30 am - 11:00 am )

For children ages 3-5. Fee: $8/Members $5 - per class.  Registration required by preceding Monday for each class.

Searching for Seeds - Discover the life of a seed as we explore Watershed Nature Center to see how many different types of seeds we find.  We will plant seeds to take home.

Arbor Day Celebration At GC Heritage Museum ( 10:00 am - 12:00 - noon )

The G.L.E.N. Committee will be celebrating Arbor Day again this year with a tree planting at the Glen Carbon Heritage Museum to honor the 100 years of continued service to the community.

The planting will take place at 10:00am at the Heritage Museum located at 124 School Street.

Healthy Kids Day 2014 - YMCA ( 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm )

Edwardsville YMCA is hosting a free community event – Healthy Kids Day -  to help families “Build a Happier, Healthier Kid”.

Their goal is to inspire parents and kids to stay physically and intellectually active all summer long. 

The event will be from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Meyer Center.   It will be structured like a vendor fair; a one-stop-shop for families to gather resources and activities.

Electronic waste drop-offs are scheduled at Glen Carbon Village Hall, 151 North Main Street, Glen Carbon in partnership with CJD E-Cycling.

Yoga Fitness At Glen Carbon Library ( 9:30 am - 10:30 am )

Yoga poses, also called postures, are a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility while giving you stress reduction and chronic pain management. Registration is required as space is limited to fifteen participates, and is available online.

Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative In Glen Carbon ( 10:00 am - 2:00 pm )

The Glen Carbon Police Department along with CADD (Communities Altering Destructive Decisions) and sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency will be hosting a Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative.

Bring your medications for disposal to Glen Carbon Village Hall front parking lot at 151 North Main Street, Glen Carbon, Illinois. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Accepted items include: Prescription medications, vitamins, over-the-counter medications, hormones, painkillers, and antibiotics Items NOT ACCEPTED: Hypodermic needles, intravenous solutions, mercury thermometers, hearing aids, oxygen tanks, or other hazardous household waste.




Arbor Day Celebration - Watershed Nature Center ( 11:00 am - 12:00 - noon )

Free event; all ages.  Let's celebrate Arbor Day.  Local Boy & Girl Scouts will plant native trees in recognition and honor of Arbor Day at Watershed Nature Center.  Join us and learn about the White Oak and American Hornbeam trees that will be planted on the site.

Bobby Norfolk Storytelling & Earth Day ( 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm )

Award winning storyteller Bobby Norfolk will be preforming his Living History Celebration program - 'Shadowball'! This educational narrative will introduce African American baseball players James "Cool Papa" Bell and Leroy "Satchel" Paige. Immediately following, 'Every Day is Earth Day' program. Discuss the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, and recycle) and make some Earth-friendly crafts! Registration is available online.

Pressed Herbs Class ( 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm )

Edwardsville Public Library will host Carolyn Willmore and Barb Finbloom of the St. Louis Herb Society as they talk about how to press herbs and use them in decorative craft projects.  Each participant will make a bookmark to take home using pressed herbs. No registration is required.

Core Strengthening And Yoga - Glen Carbon Library ( 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm )

Required Equipment: Yoga Mat (ankle and wrist weights are optional)
Core-strength exercises strengthen your core muscles, including your abdominal muscles, back muscles, and the muscles around the pelvis. This workshop will focus on core strengthening for half the class and finish the workout with yoga stretches. Registration is required as space is limited and is available online.
