ed-glen families, an online resource for families in the greater Edwardsville-Glen Carbon area, announces its expansion into the southern Illinois market. sifamilies.org was developed by ed-glen families and brought to the southern Illinois market by Child Care Resource & Referral at John A. Logan College. Information on the site will encompass the southern 15 counties in Illinois.
“We are thrilled to be working with CCR&R at JALC to offer this website to the families of southern Illinois. It is a tremendous resource that will provide the region’s families a convenient, fast, easy and up-to-date source for events and information. Site visitors will be amazed by the sheer volume of content,” states company co-owner Sara Berkbigler.

The Rehabilitation Center at Anderson Wins 5-Star Award for Excellence |

The Rehabilitation Center (TRC) at Anderson Hospital received the 2012 Professional Research Consultant (PRC) 5-Star Award for Excellence. The 5-Star Award is given annually to healthcare facilities that score in the top 10 percent nationally (at or above the 90th percentile) or higher for “Excellent” responses for overall Quality of Care when compared to other providers in that category.
“The Rehab Team’s priority focus is training and caring for our patients to help them attain the best possible outcome,” said Kathy Stephens, TRC Program Director. “Achieving this award is a wonderful validation of the hard work and dedication that the rehab and nursing staff demonstrate every day.”

Rotary Criterium Rolling Into Town Aug 18th |
|

Now entering its third year, the Stifel Nicolaus Edwardsville Rotary Criterium will be held on Saturday, August 18 and promises to be bigger and better in 2012, than ever before. Hailed as one of Edwardsville’s most unique signature events, the Criterium is a series of high-speed professional bicycle races on Downtown streets, accompanied by free kids races, live music and a Downtown food and drink crawl. In years past, the races have taken place on a Sunday afternoon and a kick-off concert was held on Saturday night. This year, both the race and the concert will take place on Saturday night and the concert is moving from City Park to Main Street in front of the Court House for a high-energy afternoon and evening of music, bike racing, and great food and drink for families and spectators of all ages. Again, there will be a $10,000 purse, one of the largest one-day payouts for a bike race in the region. See schedule below:

Leclaire Lake Fishing Derby Winners Announced |
|
The City of Edwardsville Parks & Recreation Department hosted a fishing derby at Leclaire Lake Park this past Saturday, there were approximately 33 kids participating. A huge thank you to our generous sponsors who make this event possible: IDNR, Walgreens, Sonic, & Target. Also a big thank you to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for coming out to the park and going over some fishing tips with the kids, to Walgreens for providing volunteers and Sonic for bringing Cherry Limeades!
Prizes for the most fish caught went to: 1st Place-Brady Jones (age 4) with 33 fish 2nd Place-Cooper Turner (age 5) with 32 fish 3rd Place-Chloe Turner (age 11) with 26 fish
Prizes for the biggest fish went to: 1st Place-Ben Hickman (age 15) 8.5 inches 2nd Place-Jonas Akeman (age 9) 7.5 inches 3rd Place-Luke Brockmeier (age 6) 7.5 inches

Junior Girl Scout Troop 722 of Edwardsville Makes Special Delivery to Anderson Hospital |

Junior Girl Scout Troop 722 of Edwardsville recently made a special delivery to Anderson Hospital -- over 40 Gift Baskets created especially for new moms! The gift packages – a project to earn their Bronze Service Award – are made up of all types of important items for mom and new baby. The Troop comprised of 5th graders from various schools in Edwardsville wrote letters to manufacturers, held donation drives, and raised money to fund the project. The Troop presented the baskets to Pavilion for Women Director, Karen Simpson, RN, MSN and Pavilion for Women Social Services staff, Kristen Elder, MSW. The baskets are intended for those families in need who may not be able to afford such important items.

Main Street Community Center recently converted one of its rooms into a Game Room. It will be open and available at all times during regular MSCC business hours. Rose Revelle is Main Street Community Center's volunteer of the month for November. Rose is a retired nurse and has been volunteering at the Center for five years. Rose spends her time at the Center organizing the Monday Pinochle group. She said she enjoys volunteering because the Center "enables seniors to enjoy getting out and socializing." Rose is a member of St. Cecilia's Church in Glen Carbon. In her spare time, she loves to knit and crochet. The Center is most grateful for her steadfast service. |

On Saturday, October 29th the Edwardsville Parks & Recreation Department hosted the annual children’s costume contest at the City Park Bandstand immediately followed by trick-or-treating on Main Street. There were 198 entries with participants dressed in almost every costume imaginable: a garden gnome, a very hungry caterpillar, a tornado, a defeated Texas Ranger, a baby carrot, and six little monkeys jumping on a bed; just to name a few. Winners, chosen by the Edwardsville Lions Club, include:

The Parks Department would like to thank all who partnered with the City of Edwardsville to make this event a huge success including the Edwardsville Lions club for judging, GCS Federal Credit Union for donating prizes including savings bonds, the Edwardsville Walgreens Store for taking free pictures of each participant in the park, the EHS Community Chamber Orchestra for playing music during registration, Market Basket for supplying pumpkins and gourds for stage decorations, the Edwardsville Police Department for providing crossing guards on the Main St. intersections, and the 40 participating Main St. businesses for handing out candy after the contest. We look forward to partnering with you all again next year! |

Edwardsville Parks & Lions Club Sponsor Costume Contest |

Get your costumes ready! On Saturday, October 29th Edwardsville Parks Department in cooperation with the Edwardsville Lion’s Club will host a children’s costume contest at the City Park Bandstand immediately followed by trick-or-treating on Main Street.
Costumed children should arrive at the park with their parents by 11:30 a.m. to register for the event. Participants will be grouped in separate age categories: baby to 3 years old, 4-6 years old, 7-9 years old, 10-12 years old and a special category for group costumes. The Edwardsville Lion’s Club will begin judging at noon with each child taking a turn on the stage at the bandstand. Prizes, including savings bonds, donated by GCS Federal Credit Union will be awarded after each age category has been presented.
