Tips - No sugar on long trips!
Travel:  Important!  Don't load the kids with sugar on long trips!  Instead, try healthy snacks that travel well such as fresh fruit (bananas, grapes, apples), veggie sticks, cheese sticks, crackers or dried fruit.  Foods high in protein will help the kids relax and hopefully take a nap!

Tips - Airplanes and Toddlers
Travel:  Takeoff and landing are hard on little Toddler ears.  Bring a sippy cup or a straw so that your child can drink milk or water during takeoff and landing.  Not every airline has milk on board, so buy some after you clear security.

Tips - Stay centered on vacation!
Travel:  Try to stay near the center of your destination and activities.  Nothing aggravates family dynamics and the fatigue factor like long car trips or transit.  Even if you have to cut back spending elsewhere, a great location can ease a lot of tension when the trip back to the hotel is close and easy!

Tips - Vacation Budget
Travel:  Set up a Vacation Budget.  Even for kids starting at age 6, it's better to give a fixed amount for souvenirs and extras before the trip starts.  If you say that the money is theirs to spend as they see fit and they keep whatever they don't spend, you'll create a strong lesson in budgeting and you'll be amazed at how careful they are with "their" money.

Tips - Vacation lodging options
Travel:  Consider an apartment rental or hotel apartment.  These days there are more options than having a whole family share a single hotel room.  That's not a fun vacation for you or your teen!  Short stay apartment rentals give you more space for the money and features a kitchen for quick and easy meals.

Tips - No more bumper stickers!

Need to remove some bumper stickers?  Use nail polish remover or lighter fluid.  Gently scrape away with a razor blade or knife.

Tips - Time for New Tires?

Test how much tread is left your tires.  Stick a quarter in the groove upside down.  If you can see all of Washington's head, there's too little tread.
