This important Edwardsville building was built in 1969, and a new addition was completed in 1989.  The building is undergoing a major renovation this summer.  The building and it's organization serves an integral role in the lives of many Edwardsville-area residents.  What is the name of the building and the organization?

Columbus Fifth Graders Take Flight

Fifth graders at Columbus Elementary took to the skies Tuesday when they flight tested five of their newest creations. The “2012 Aircraft Design Project” was conducted as part of this year's “Adopt A Pilot” program in Mr. Maddox's class, hosted by Southwest Airlines Pilot Scott Fitzgerald.

The project was designed to help teach students the processes that take complex ideas and make them into reality. It was modeled after a college design project that Scott did in 1987. The goal was to design, construct and fly five radio-controlled aircraft to be presented to the student body at the end of the program.

After learning some fundamentals of aircraft design, the students each made a conceptual drawing of an original aircraft. Imagination and creativity were the only limiting factors. From those drawings, the kids chose five designs for further development. The students were then divided into design teams. The teams had a project leader, a draftsman, a data cruncher and a spokesperson.
